JOB Description:
Working within a discipline, the Database Administrator will plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation,
selection, application, and adaptation of information technology techniques, procedures and criteria in areas including infrastructure operations.
This position will devise new approaches to problems encountered to provide solutions to the customer. The Database Administrator will support
a discipline in the performance of complex and demanding assignments requiring initiative and independent judgment. This position will perform
work that requires the application of a significant range of fundamental principles in a variety of contexts.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Defines operating procedures and maintenance schedules and liaises with customers to assess and develop appropriate information technology solutions
Analyzes, diagnoses, designs, plans, executes and evaluates work to time, cost and quality targets
Perform database software installation /patch / upgrade to development, test and production servers
Perform database instance and schema creation, migration, merge, reorganization, archive, restoration
Perform database instance backup and recovery as necessary
Perform database instance and schema security setup
Perform database and data tuning, capacity planning, change management
Perform database tool and technology evaluation
Exhibits thorough familiarity with available methods, procedures, tools, equipment and standards associated with own area of specialization
and makes correct choices from alternatives
Assist program developers with database design issues, use of functions, stored procedures and packages
Configure distributed database services (replication and Oracle Streams) and maintain, monitor such services
Provide advice and guidance on technical matters
Be able to log Service Requests (SRs) with Oracle and Microsoft, apply patches and coordinate with developers, support analysts and users to
verify a patch has corrected a problem without negative consequences
Perform coordination with a geographically disbursed team of Operations DBAs
Basic Qualifications:
At least one year of experience as an Oracle DBA, with Windows platform experience
At least one year of experience as a DBA with Microsoft SQL Server
Bachelors degree in Information Technology or a related field
Level II Qualifications:
Three or more years of experience as an Oracle DBA, with Windows platform experience
Two or more years of experience as a DBA with Microsoft SQL Server
Bachelors degree in Information Technology or a related field
Additional Qualifications/ Information
Knowledge of various forms of database high availability options and replication
Knowledge with Oracle Enterprise Manager
Knowledge of projects or functions including engineering, procurement, construction and other business applications
Knowledge of infrastructure systems architecture concepts, configurations and standards
Skill in working with customers to understand their requirements and expectations by asking questions and listening
The above may be acquired through:
-Recognized degree in Computer Science or Information Systems from an accredited college or university, or
-Specialized courses in general information technology or relevant information technology disciplines
Able to work overtime to support activities as necessary
Strong oral and written communication skills are required
Extensive work experience in information technology or relevant equivalent experience in other information systems and technology disciplines
Must demonstrate a systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to problem solving
Linux and/or Unix platform experience a plus
Oracle certification preferred
