Position: Performance Tester (Ref code: 060414-SARSHE-OP-IO47.5-JOH)

Location: Herndon, VA

Duration: 6+ months

 

Description:

A senior performance test engineer with a strong systems engineering background who can contribute in all areas of the performance testing process. The person will design and document test cases, execute performance benchmarks, analyze performance test results, generate reports, troubleshoot issues in testing, use scripting and programming skills to help automate procedures, identify any hindrance to performance and evaluate hardware and software.

Job Description:
- Plan and execute test strategies to validate system performance, capacity, stability and scalability.
- Design, develop and maintain performance test plans, cases, scenarios, and scripts that meet the performance test objectives.
- Perform test execution, monitoring, diagnostics, analysis, tuning and reporting of results to identify and troubleshoot system performance issues and bottlenecks.
- Design and develop test data strategies to drive workloads for performance test.
- Design and develop automated performance test framework.
- Develop and maintain system performance models.
- Elicit performance requirements and determine workload and usage models.
- Contribute to the development of performance test objectives and performance related requirements.
- Support the preparation of performance test environment and infrastructure.
- Benchmark system performance and evaluate alternate hardware and software architectures.

Knowledge and Skill:
- Excellent knowledge of performance engineering and testing methodology, and experience with performance testing and monitoring tools.
- Excellent knowledge of Oracle SQL Trace, TKPROF and AWR reports.
- Excellent knowledge of database performance tuning techniques on large scale implementations.
- Excellent knowledge of Unix monitoring tools, commands and scripting.
- Expertise in identifying root cause of performance bottlenecks and ability to provide recommendation for remediation.
- Working knowledge of Java performance management and debugging.
- Strong understanding of software development life cycles, software engineering processes, test processes, operating systems and architectures.
- Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, diagramming and presentation software.
- Knowledge of performance bottlenecks and end-to-end performance measures (server response time, throughput, network latency, etc.).
- Strong problem solving, analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong ability to interpret and summarize performance test metrics, including the ability to create and present result reports.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Experience and Qualification:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, management information systems, or equivalent experience, required.
- 5+ years experience in performance modeling, testing, analysis, troubleshooting and optimization required.
- 5+ years hands-on experience in performance tuning on Linux, Java and Oracle database platform. Experience with Oracle 11g required.
- Experience in development and tuning of Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, including query plan optimizations.
- Experience in identifying bottlenecks for scalability and performance using Oracle AWR and ADDM reports.
- Experience in development of automation tools and frameworks for performance testing, measurement and analysis.
- Experience in performing load, stress, endurance and capacity testing including planning activities through reporting, in large scale application systems.
- Experience with HP Quality Center, AutoSys, SQLPLUS and Unix scripting.
