Data Modeler

 

Position overview

Client is seeking a full time Data Modeler to play an active role in developing and documenting the database design for a new project. The Data Modeler will be responsible for creating and maintaining conceptual and logical data models
with associated metadata. He/she will ensure that the data models are designed in a way that meets the business and technical requirements but also aligns with the enterprise information model to assure reuse and consistency.

The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of data modeling principles/best practices and deep database design and development experience.

 

Duties and Responsibilities
Work with architects, development leads, and business to design, develop and maintain logical data model
Employ knowledge of database features and objects such as partitioning, change data capture, indexes, views, indexed
views to develop optimal physical data model
Work with the Data Architect in defining and maintaining database design standards
Collaborate with other data modeling team members to ensure design consistency and integrity
Develop, maintain, and apply standards for enterprise modeling, including reviews, naming conventions and XML naming
standards
Work with Development DBA to assist and support developers with SQL performance tuning, query tuning and code
reviews

 

Required skills and experience
5+ years experience as a data modeler, data analyst or similar role
Bachelors degree and or equivalent, Computer Science or Engineering degree preferred
Strong understanding of database normalization and data warehouse design concepts
Strong understanding of relational database concepts with proven ability in usage of a variety of database features
to design databases to ensure data consistency, accuracy and performance
Experience with converting data between XML and relational DB format
Experience with CA-ERwin and/or Infosphere Data Architect
Excellent organizational, planning and analytical skills.
Excellent communication skills; comfortable working directly with business needs
Excellent problem-solving skillsable to formulate creative solutions to day-to-day problems and make good decisions
on the fly
Experience in the insurance industry is strongly preferred
