Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is for a SQL Server Database Administrator who can work independently
on database administration and database development activities.
These include the design, development, implementation and maintenance of a legacy system replacement effort.
This position will participate in design sessions with application engineers and will work closely
with business analysts, who develop the business and software specifications for project objectives.
Supporting the critical data and content migration teams will also be a significant part of the job.
As a database administrator, this position will work closely with IT to support physical database administration
including performance management, security, installations, upgrades, patches, backup, recovery,
space management, performance tuning and capacity planning.
On-call support to maintain 7x24 coverage of the database environment is also required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Good written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Experienced in designing, implementing and maintaining SQL 2008 and 2012.
Lead and make design decisions to create simple, elegant and re-usable software
components as a part of larger enterprise application framework.
Strong skills designing, developing and maintaining stored procedures, views, tables,
T-SQL scripts, etc. as well as creating associated documentation.
Demonstrated skill in relational table design and applying optimized indexes.
Strong skill in designing, developing and maintaining SSIS packages is a major plus.
Experience with solving performance problems with execution plans, Database Tuning Advisor and SQL Profiler.
Experience in creating / maintaining multiple test environments with obfuscated data is needed.
Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery
and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
Minimizes system downtime and ensures restoration of system and business activities.
Monitor, tune and optimize database performance.
Exposure to DB2, IBM System I, Power7, WebSphere, and/or FileNet systems is a plus.
Experience with tools like IDERA, SSDT is a plus.
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Enjoys challenges and problem solving.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science.
MCDBA certification is preferred.
A minimum of 6-10 years of practical experience using MS SQL Server in a production environment is required.
Experience participating in all phases of the software development life cycle (analysis, design, implementation, testing,
debugging, documentation, release, and maintenance) is required.
