MAINFRAME SYSTEM SPECIALIST WOODLAWN MD

 
 
Position: Mainframe Systems Specialist
Location: Woodlawn (Baltimore), MD
Description: long-term contract

This is a SYSTEMS side opening, not for a candidate on the applications side of mainframe.  Therefore, candidates MUST have experience installing, implementing, customizing, or evaluating vendor/third party products such as BMC or CA.  Also, must be comfortable running these tools on a mainframe platform, and giving recommendations for enhancements.
 

 

Responsibilities:

·          Candidate must demonstrate their experience and ability to manage enterprise-wide information technology for SSA projects. 

·          Qualifying experience must have software vendor background in installations or evaluation experience. Candidate must have knowledge on creating solutions, utilizing vendor software that is deployed and running on Mainframe systems. 

·          Candidate must demonstrate extensive knowledge of industry best-practices. 

·          Candidate must be able to demonstrate their experience and ability to work with technical oversight with manager and to create solutions for Mainframe systems. 

·          Candidate must have knowledge and experience with vendor products from SAS, BMC, CA and Compuware

·          Candidate must possess superior oral and written communications skills in order to clearly and effectively convey issues, reports, and other deliverables to management and SSA counterparts

 

Requirements:

·          Leads and directs the efforts of all vendor products on Mainframe platforms and across components and/or technical areas.

·          Must be able to write and support recommendations for enhancements to Mainframe systems.

·          Must be able to understand and analyze topography mapping to systems and their connections.

·          Provides guidance and direction on the best approach to deploy the vendor software at its least expensive roll out across multiple platforms.

·          Recommends and implements best-practices in the development and delivery of IT services.

·          Provides technical expertise, support, oversight, and analysis in functional areas such as, but not limited to, design and development of appropriate IBM mainframe architectures, creation of information and decision papers on IT issues.

·          Applies an enterprise-wide set of disciplines for the planning, analysis, design, construction, reverse-engineering, and reengineering of information systems on an enterprise-wide basis or across a major sector of the enterprise.

·          Develops, integrates, and deploys enterprise solutions.

·          Engineers and manages hardware and software architectures Mainframe and Open systems to ensure compatibility and optimal integration of multiple systems.  Responsible for technical architecture adherence to plans and specifications.

·          Supports the formulation, review, and recommendation of solutions to customer problems based on prior experience and hands-on understanding of how products and services interrelate and support the customer mission.

·          Performs needs analysis to define opportunities for new and improved business and process solutions.

·          Must be able to get Public Trust Clearance prior to beginning work.

 

Education:

·          An undergraduate degree (BA/BS) from an accredited university in Computer Science, Information Technology or a computer related field with 14 years of professional experience, or a Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a computer related field with 12 years of professional experience. We can consider candidates with Associate Degrees and 16 years experience, or a High School/GED with 18 years experience.
