Job Description:

Client in San Antonio is seeking a Sr. Database Architect for a for a 6 month engagement with possible extensions.

Summary:

The Sr. Database Architect supports the implementation of the technology road map by performing databases design and development, testing, and deployment of databases for business applications and enterprise data warehouse (EDW). Uses existing methods, tactics, and tools to implement database related tasks following the company's defined software development life cycle.

Essential Duties:

-Produce logical and physical data models, schemas, data dictionaries and ER diagrams.

-Collaborate with others to develop store procedures, indexes, user-defined functions and views to maximize query performance.

-Provide reusable source code templates for accessing the databases and generating store procedures.

-Perform database-related performance and tuning tasks.

-Perform ongoing maintenance and administration of the development and staging databases for EDW.

-Perform database capacity planning.

-Produce database-related documentation for the deployment plan, installation manual, operations manual, and disaster recovery plan.

-Provide on-call production support.

-Participate in team meetings to plan, review and design solutions to Business needs.

-SQL Server development/support for Application Engineers and Quality Assurance on Team Projects. Includes modeling, coding, unit testing, code review and change control.

-Resolve SQL Server issues in development, QA and production environments.

-Develop, promote and adhere to company database standards. Includes standards for security, coding, templates and connectivity.

-Expertise in programming complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, user defined functions and triggers.

-Interact with development team to identify data needs and potential issues as well as help design and implement solutions to the source system applications.

Minimum Requirements:

-A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a directly related area, during which professional capabilities have been clearly demonstrated.

-Clear and effective technical writer / documenter.

-Extensive experience in database design, data analysis and data modeling.

-Extensive knowledge of a wide variety of analytical processes.

-Proven strong negotiating and consensus building abilities.

-Proven skills to work effectively across internal functional areas in ambiguous situations.

-Extensive experience in multidimensional data modeling, such as star schemas, snowflakes, and renormalized models.

Technical skills:

-Experience with the iWay tool by Information Builders is REQUIRED.

-Primary Database platform = SQL Server / AS400 DB2

-Primary Data Modeling Tool = Embarcadaro ERStudio

-Version control tools = MS Team Foundation Server

-Experience working in an environment using SDLC practices
