Description
Description Lead a team of DBAs in production and support tasks. Reports to the Manager Global Application Infrastructure. Provide technical
strategic direction to the team and position the team to be able to respond effectively to the business demands.
Responsibilities
1. Provide 24*7 level 2 DBA support for global production systems spanning multiple time zones across multiple regions
2. Establish and maintain procedures for: backup and restore, disaster recovery, configuration standards, security
3. Set standards and guidelines for all database related implementations and enforce them to maintain consistency across environments
4. Promote efficiency and synergy when the DBA team interfaces and collaborates with various infrastructure groups (Server, Network,
Storage etc) as well as the application development and BA teams.
5. Mentor and train all junior level DBAs both on functional and technical domains and procedures.
6. Follow up on all database related outages, RFO submissions, root-cause and problem resolution
7. Device and enforce policies and procedures to embrace ITIL framework
8. Work closely with the DBA manager to identify areas where process improvements are desirable and set up policies and procedures
to implement them. This includes resource loading, knowledge transfer and removal of single points of failure.
9. Provide consulting type of service to the application teams on all database architecture related areas.
10. Identify areas of cost savings by means of effective landscape management via consolidations, decommissions, replacements etc
11. Function as a project manager for activities initiated by the DBA team
12. Conduct technical evaluations on new products and features and provide recommendations and directions for the implementation
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
* 10 years of database architecture and administration experience, with 5- 8 years of real world database support experience in a tier
two/three support role
* Expert level skills as a DBA for Oracle and Sql Server. Certifications desired.
* Excellent skills in using Unix and Windows platforms, including scripting
* Experience working in a 24X7 on-call environment
* Expert level proficiency in most aspects of database architecture and its related components like OS/server/network and storage
* Demonstrated proactive process improvements
* Demonstrated innovation, out of the box thinking, best practices approach
* 3 years of experience in documenting and implementing standards and best practices in both technical and functional areas
* Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with other IT teams in design/architecture areas and provide valuable feedbacks as
appropriate.
* Experience in successfully conducting product evaluations that include vendor(s) interactions.
