We are currently seeking a Load/Performance Test Engineer to provide enterprise wide support for Performance/Load/Stress Testing requests from internal customers. The specific responsibilities includes defining and estimating service engagements for internal customers, developing and executing basic and complex scripts, troubleshooting existing scripts/suites, and performing proper post-execution data gathering and analysis. The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled, professional, motivated, proactive individual with a passion for problem solving and making things efficient.
Development Support Services, a unit within Enterprise Application Services at UC Berkeley, partners with internal development organizations to provide development support services for enterprise-level software implementations such as PeopleSoft HR and Financials as well as custom-developed/open source student system solutions. Responsibilities:
Plan, design, execute, and evaluate performance tests of applications and services to ensure optimal performance.
Consult project teams on load/performance/stress test strategies and best practices, scenario creation and test designs, virtual user and ramp-up strategies, test data creation, etc...
Implement automated test scripts using LoadRunner 9.x based on system understanding and analysis of functional and system specifications.
Customize and troubleshoot scripts as necessary, configure recording and run-time settings, capture dynamic data and design error handling strategies.
Coordinate monitoring and reporting analysis across technical support teams.
Analyze load test results to accurately assess product quality and identify solutions to improve application performance.
Assist Development and Operations with diagnosis, troubleshooting and resolution of performance issues.
Document and present detailed and summary performance test findings throughout the life of the project.
Maintain baseline metrics for each application, component and release.
Configure LoadRunner controller, load generator and analysis utilities as commensurate with best practices and project specific needs.
Using a solid background in load and performance test automation, participate in evaluation and installation of alternative open source automation tools and proof of concepts efforts as called upon.
Effectively balance work on multiple projects and teams simultaneously.
Qualifications:
5+ years as a test automation engineer with a focus on load and performance testing, using HPs LoadRunner.
Expert understanding of LoadRunner architecture and components.
Proficiency in script customization and script enhancements (e.g. correlations/parameterization) using LoadRunner required.
End-to-end, planning to execution experience on multiple enterprise-level system load testing assignments required.
Ability to work with both functional and technical leaders in constructing a plan utilizing their insight and experience in defining tasks and scheduling.
Extensive skills in diagnosing and solving complex problems and providing detailed technical analysis.
Strong understanding of n-tier architecture, web and application servers.
Test automation experience with a variety of technologies such as PeopleTools, Java, .NET/ASP.
Understanding of database design and architectures.
Working exposure to a number of operating systems such as Unix, Linux, Windows and load balancing/clustering concepts.
Experience defining and estimating service engagements a strong plus.
Strong analytical skills with an attention to detail.
Excellent written and oral communication with IT and client groups.
Highly motivated with the ability to quickly learn new technologies.
Experience with end-to-end system monitoring and performance tuning strongly desired.
Experience with a variety of LoadRunner protocols such as AJAX or web-services a strong plus.
